2021 Mary Taylor Anjou Blanc Pascal Biotteau
$ 15.99
Pretty aromas of pear, quince, and flowers (chamomile) over a bed of limestone. This delicious wine is balanced on the palate, with moderate, rounded acidity. Orchard fruits (pear, yellow apple, and apricot) join floral notes, subtle and fresh. Medium bodied with a mineral finish. Everything here is well integrated
Anjou is a large AOC, with two different soil profiles. Anjou Blanc is in the west of the AOC, with chalky limestone soils that give a lighter, more energetic expression of Chenin Blanc. Anjou Noir lies to the east, with dark volcanic schist soils that make for a richer, more full-bodied wine.
Sourced from vineyards that fall exactly along the border of the two sub-regions of Anjou, this gorgeously subtle white from fourth-generation winemaker Pascal Biotteau comes from the village of Saint-Jean-de-Mauvrets, situated on the old Roman road from Angers to Poitiers.
Combining the fresh acidity of the “Anjou Blanc’s” limestone with the flinty, mouth-coating richness of the “Anjou Noir,” the estate’s classic style offers a beautiful composite picture of Anjou as a whole, with honeyed notes of apricot giving way to a tangy mineral finish. The sort of classic “bistro wine” wine that you’d dream of drinking on a warm summer evening in Paris.
