2021 F Allessandria Verduno Pelaverga Speziale
Here is a a rare treat! The red Pelaverga grape is native to Verduno; there are less than a dozen local producers who craft pure Pelaverga wines. Often served with a light chill. Locals say Pelaverga wines are an aphrodisiac!
Since the mid-19th century, the Alessandria family has called Verduno, at the northern edge of the Barolo zone, home. Then, Verduno was the center of Barolo winemaking—here families first crafted dry Nebbiolo wines in the style we know today. Because of this, the village was internationally recognized as the face of Barolo. Today Verduno is experiencing a renaissance, and it is the “brothers” Alessandria who are guiding the wines of Verduno back to the heights they once held. What Verduno gives is exactly what we crave in our Barolo wines: complexity without heaviness, structure with finesse. “Fratelli Alessandria is one of Piedmont’s under-the-radar jewels,” says Antonio Galloni.
It has a particular light ruby color making it striking from the start. It's most fascinating pecularity is the unmistakable scent of spices, especially the white pepper that is the story of Speziale. Lots of wild strawberries, raspberries and rosemary flowers. Suave and juicy with light gentle tannins.

A brilliant pale-ruby color matches this wine’s lively strawberry flavors and snappy hints of white pepper and orange zest. So dangerously gulpable you could down a bottle before you know it.

"Speziato means spicy in Italian and true to its name, this lithe, delicious red has aromas and flavors of white and black pepper that add depth to a core of juicy Marasca cherry. Supple tannins and fresh acidity keep it well balanced. Drink through 2024. Alcohol 13.5%.
