2021 Est Est Est di Montefiascone
The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella found Falesco in Montefiascone, in northern Latium, with the aim of recovering old indigenous grape varieties in that area. In the decades since Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella achieved worldwide recognition for making some of Italy’s most collectible wines, each winning countless accolades and awards and becoming two of the most celebrated winemakers in Italy and Falesco has consistently turned out some of the best value Italian wines on the market today. Today their daughters are in charge of the business.
Est! Est! Est! is a wine with an interesting history. The name comes from a 12th-century tale of a German Bishop traveling to the Vatican for a meeting with the pope. The bishop sent a prelate ahead of him to survey the villages along the route for the best wines. The 'wine scout' had instructions to write 'Est' (Latin for 'There is') on the door or on the wall of the inns he visited when he was particularly impressed with the quality of the wine they served so the bishop following on his trail would have known in advance where to make a stop. At a Montefiascone inn, the prelate was reportedly so overwhelmed with the local wine that he wrote Est! Est!! Est!!! on the door.
This wine uses the designated grapes as well as a rare Rossett. All of the grapes are from mature vines averaging 18 years of age, 60% Trebbiano, 20% Malvasia and 15% Rossetto fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. The wine ages gently on the lees before racking and bottling. Forbes Magazine says it "shows surprising refreshment and complexity at a bargain-basement price." and ahs "zesty lemon and crunchy green apple...minerally, leesy undertones"
The wine straw yellow in color obtained from the grapes trebbiano roscetto and malvasia is fresh and structured due to its good acidity. It is very agreeable on the nose for its fine aromatic character its floral and fruity notes.
