Sostener is a collaborative project between two Monterey grower/vintners, Steve McIntyre and Michael Thomas, who are dedicated to producing affordable, premium quality Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Meaning to sustain in Spanish, the name Sostener not only evokes the local heritage of the Salinas Valley, but also symbolizes a dedication to sustainable viticulture and Winemaking.

Fun Facts:

  • Packaging in a light-weight glass bottle that reduces the carbon footprint during shipping. But sadly, does not mean more wine in the bottle.
  • Utilizing a renewable cork closure
  • Maintaining a low-carbon footprint by producing wine within twenty miles of the vineyard.
  • Eric Laumann has been at the helm as winemaker since the first vintage of 2012.

Sostener’s 2016 Pinot Noir is a worthy successor to the wonderful 2015. It features fruit from 45-year-old, own-rooted Pinot Noir vines. The wine is deep, dark and overt with notes of strawberries, plums and spice. Its superb balance makes it the perfect accompaniment to a wide variety of foods.
