2018 Domaine Arlaud Bourgogne Rouge Roncevie
Charming, thoughtful and generous, rpm and his family are making terrific wines. This wine is a fine example, and one of the domaine's more affordable offerings.
Allen Meadows - Burghound
A markedly ripe nose combines notes of black cherry, cassis and dark raspberry with those of earth and a whiff of forest floor. There is reasonably good vibrancy to the sleekly textured flavors that conclude in a dusty, mildly austere and warm finish.
When in 1964 Joseph Arlaud acquired a part of the Roncevie vineyard, the whole vineyard was classified as village Gevrey-Chambertin; that same year, a degree was promulgated reclassifying the Arlaud section alone of Roncevie as only Bourgogne.
• 100% Gevrey-Chambertin – Roncevie is a lieu-dit (small geographic area with a designated name) that was until 1964 Gevrey-Chambetin Villages. Half is still Gevrey Villages, the other declassified purely for political reasons.
• A stone’s throw from Griottes-Chambertin
• 50+ year old vines
• Aged in older barrels
100% Pinot Noir
