2018 Antonio Caggiano Tauri Irpinia Aglianico
Winemaking in Campania pre-dated the settling of Rome. While no one is sure, the Aglianico grape seems to have been native to the area dating back to the sixth century BC. The area is mountainous and dry but cool allowing for the grapes to develop a lovely personality.
This wine has aromas of red fruits of the forest and black plums. The wine is delicate, showing off notes of fruit and black pepper.
The vineyards are located in the region of Taurasi, about 350m above sea level and the soil is a clay-limestone mix. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and the wines are aged anywhere from 4-6 months, depending on the vintage.
