2017 Julien Cruchandeau Bouzeron Aligote
A passionate and successful former musician, Julien Cruchandeau has been in complete tune with his vineyards in the tiny village of Chaux, in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits above Nuits-Saint-Georges, since 2010. From a tiny cellar packed with barrels under his home, Cruchandeau offers wonderful wines in an area of Burgundy once known for high volume and lower quality. His natural practices and hands-off style create true Burgundy Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that are aromatic, bright, fresh and pretty, and clearly express a sense of place. Taking a cue from their young, exciting maker, these wines are fun, pleasing and easy to drink. A rising star in the region, Cruchandeau offers high-level quality at entry-level prices.
Age of the vines: 66 years
Terroir: medium slope facing south/south-west, altitude 270 metres, soil white marl, tilled vineyards
Cultivation method: Lutte raisonnée.
Harvesting: Grapes are hand-picked and -sorted.
Fermentation: Slow, around 20 days in stainless steel vats.
Maturation: 80% in vats to retain Aligoté’s freshness and mineral qualities and 20% in new barrels to add complexity by giving it body and a very discreet toasty note.
Tasting notes: aromas of white flowers on the nose, a fresh attack on the palate typical of Aligoté leaving room for body and fruity notes, then the mineral notes leave you with a long finish.
