2016 Sea Monster Eclectic White Blend
A team of two winemakers have joined together to make a few strangely (but fun) named wines because they take their winemaking seriously but not life in general. They sourced this fruit mostly from the Santa Ynez Valley.
This is a blend of Viognier, Riesling, Grenache Blanc, Gewurtztraminer and a touch of Chardonnay. No oak used.
The nose is a mix of citrus, stone fruit and tropical fruit with some honeysuckle and lychee. On the palate there is a delightful fruit compote of apple, mango, orange and marzipan in a harmonious union of flavors. The fresh acidity balances out the fruit perfectly.
"The nose on this blend is rich in exotic smells: lemongrass, honeydew melon, white flowers, and tropical citrus notes. The mouth is reminiscent of some of the more intense white Rhone blends you find from New World regions. Voluptuous flavors of tangerine and peach followed by marzipan and candied apricot slices. This wine is sexy and doesn?t require food to enjoy given its lush structure. But if you go that route, I?d be serving this with a rich risotto fueled with layers of parmesan, or a cool sous vide and seared pork belly dish served with those tiny, cute purple potatoes that have been halved and sauteed in olive oil and garlic salt, or even a veggie bowl of those really neat baby squash you can get in a bag that you steam then toss with butter, salt and pepper. Yes, I've tried them all."
