2016 Domaine Bernard Fleuriet et Fils Sancerre Rouge Tradition
Loire is noted for it's fabulous white wines - Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. There is some red wine production, but it typically dwarfed by the white wine. And, honestly, some of it just isn't that good.
The 2016 Domaine Bernard Fleuriet et Fils Sancerre Rouge Tradition, is however, quite wonderful. It has many qualities of Pinot Noir from Burgundy, but with a bit more gravitas and a little less elegance. It makes for a wine described by some as "rustic". It was taken to a fancy outdoor concert and we found it to be well made, juicy, fruity, tannic and rather terrific with both lamb chops and a morrocanized halibut. Two of us fought over the last drops.
