The region's winemaking history dates back to 1170 when the top quality wines were appreciated by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques. The winery at Tramagal is a traditional Portuguese facility. The exterior features timeless architecture, with massive white and yellow walls, while the interior revels state-of-art winemaking technology and processes.
Casal da Coelheira Estate Winery is now home to some of the most innovative wines inside the Tagus River wine region. With long, extreme summers and cold wet winters, what makes Quinta do Casal da Coelheira so special is the Iberian Tagus river, including the floods and the more extreme climatic conditions.
The sandy soils retain small quantities of water, and every year the vines stress to reach this water. This results in the production of less leaf and more concentrated grapes, creating impressive terroir flavors in the resulting wines.
Sustainable farming practices. Destemming, maceration and fermentation with temperature control, malolactic fermentation and filtration. Fermentation in stainless steel vats.
A rustic, soft wine with notes of plum, berries and hints of vanilla and dark chocolate with an attractive spiciness. Well balanced palette with soft tannins, good acidity. Elegant and fresh.
