2016 Alberto Quacquarini Serrapetrona
Alberto Quacquarini Serrapetrona Secco is the still (as in not sparkling) version of the a wonderful Alberto Quacquarini Vernaccia di Serrapetrona Secco.
It is a deep red, complex and flat-out delicious. Vernaccia Nera is grown in very few spots in central Italy. It has a murky past and no relation to the famous white wines of San Gimignano. It is unique and recognized as such; it has been named a DOCG (Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita)...the really good stuff.
Everything on the Quacquarini estate is harvested by hand and are vinified traditionally.
It has aromas of spices; clove, cinnamon and black pepper. Then lavender with hints of honey. You'll discover plums, cocoa, leather, a hint of tobacco and a pleasantly bitter finish.
