2015 Vigneti del Vulture Aglianico del Vulture
At the very bottom of Italy is the region of Basilicata where winemaking pre-dated the settling of Rome. While no one is sure, the Aglianico grape seems to have been native to the area dating back to the sixth century BC. The area is mountainous and dry but cool allowing for the grapes to develop a lovely personality.
The bouquet is ample with dominant notes of bitter cherry, candied fruit, aromatic herbs and hints of vanilla and thyme. The flavor has a powerful and imperious character marked with elegant minerality, red fruit, spices and cream. It has extraordinary balance and drinkability.
Grapes are handpicked in selected vineyards. The best grapes are chosen and are then gently crushed and destemmed. Pre-fermentative maceration is carried out at a temperature of about 4-5° for 5 days. Then the grapes undergo fermentation at a temperature of 22-24°C.
Production Area: Acerenza, Barile, Maschito.
