2015 Dom des Escaravailles Cotes du Rhone
In 1953, Jean-Louis Ferran purchased several well-situated hillside parcels above the southern Rhone villages of Rasteau, Roaix and Cairanne. He dubbed his new domaine "Escaravailles," the Occitan word for beetles (scarabs). Jean-Louis’ grandson Gilles -graduated first in his class from the University of Montpellier’s prestigious enology school- now takes care of the estate.
The Les Sablieres begins to feel a bit more “Northern Rhone” with an intense meaty, peppery nose; however, the lavender garrigue and raspberry that personify the Southern Rhone are present as well. There in spades, in fact, with a wonderful raspberry/pepper tension on the palate that supports and carries the richer fruit impact beautifully.
Grenache, Carignan, Syrah
