2014 Ridge Geyserville
Ridge Vineyards had it's beginning in 1885 when Osea Perrone, a San Francisco doctor bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge. He terraced the slopes and planted the fields and by 1892 produced his first wine. In the 1940's a handful of Stanford research scientists acquired the property and resurrected it and produced some of the finest wines of the era. They re-bonded the winery in 1962.
By the mid-sixties, they were the leaders in Cab and Zinfandel in California.
Mostly old vine Zinfandel from their Alexander Valley estate this is blended with small amounts of Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. This has an excellent history for aging potential. The winemaker's notes äóìaromas of blackberry jam with candied plums, gravel, spearming, sweet oak, tropical floral notes. Fresh intense bramble fruit on entry, lively acidity, elegant tannins, mint and gravely earth. Multi-dimensional: layered, deep seductive flavors; lingering finish.äó?
93 Points Galloni äóìThe 2014 Zinfandel Geyserville is just as beautiful from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, textured and dense on the palate, the 2014 exudes depth, but in the mid-weight style of the year. The complexity of the Zinfandel-based field blend comes through in spades. The 2014 is creamy and persistent, but also graced with a mid-weight, finessed personality that is impossible to resist. In 2014, the Zinfandel is on the lower side relative to the recent past, with other grapes in the blend playing more important roles.äó?
