Named after the rare Douro golden oriole bird (which obviously likes to eat figs), this is a bright, fruity wine with light tannins that give it a delicious fresh, red fruit character. It has a smoky edge from wood aging, finely balanced and ready to drink now.

90 points Wine Spectator
*Smart Buys* Very suave, with rich minerality and luscious flavors of plum tart and cherry compote. Cedary notes are accented by lots of white pepper and spice on the zesty finish. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Drink now through 2020. (KM) (6/2016)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2014 Papa Figos (Casa Ferreirinha) is a blend of 30% Touriga Franca, 15% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz and 30% Tinta Barroca, all sourced from Douro Superior. About 20% of the juice was aged in used French oak for six months. Clean and fruity, this lower priced red has a fresh feel. Considering the difficulties in the vintage and the price point, it is a very respectable performance. It still shows sweet and tasty fruit, and it is respectably full in the mouth. If the fruit doesn't demonstrate much lift, the wine does have fine structure for the level as well. It fleshes out a bit with air, too. You could do a lot worse and spend a lot more. Very young and unevolved, it can be approached now, but giving it six months more to calm down wouldn't hurt. (MS) (3/2016)
