2013 Vinosia Taurasi Santandrea
Vinosia is young project undertaken by Mario and Luciano Ercolino, whose family founded Feudi di San Gregorio, where Mario was formerly the head winemaker. In 2003, Mario and Luciano set out to make their own wines and founded Vinosia, which roughly translates as ‘a new place of wine’. The winery is located in the township of Carazita, 5 km from Taurasi, in a village called Luogosano (meaning ‘healthy place’), in the Irpinia region of Campania. Their wines are elegant and exceptional.
Very deep black and red fruits with hints of blackberries, plums, and cured olives; good acidity, ample smooth tannins and a long finish reminiscent of black cherries, tea, spices, figs, and plums. Best served with roasted meats, game, and fowl.

Fantastic aromas of dark fruits and walnut, sweet tobacco, dark tea and balsamic. Some oysters, too. Full body, powerful and rich. So much going on here. A great wine from Campania. Drink in 2019.
This DOCG’s Aglianico wines are famed for their larger-than-life personalities and full-bodied character. Like Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata, Taurasi wines are considered the ‘Barolo of the south’ and have a great ability to age (some can reach 20 years). Despite their density, high levels of extract and tannin, they retain good linearity and finesse. This grape has a flair for giving wines flavors of raspberries, plums and dark cherries, as well as a smoky nuance evocative of a lit cigar, freshly ground coffee and new leather. As the wines mature, they can take on earthy, forest-floor and gamey notes. Although they can be drunk young, a little patience will smooth out the rough edges.
