2013 Stroppiana Barolo Leonardo
Dario Stroppiano took over from his father and grandfather who started the winery in the 1960’s. A bit unusual to be so young, but the family goes back as farmers for many decades. As grape farmers and Hazelnut growers, they have earned a stellar reputation in both categories.
“The Piedmont Hazelnut is acknowledged as the best in the world. We have decided to use only the best exposed areas for our vineyards, so now we have approximately 14 hectares of hazelnut groves, and the area is destined to expand over the next few years. Our crop combination is perfect, because operations in the vineyards and in the hazelnut groves usually alternate. Only rarely have the hazelnut and Dolcetto harvests overlapped.”
Ruby red with just the right reflective characteristics of garnet. intense with a pleasant scent of brushwood interspersed with tobacco and spicy notes and characterized by considerable elegance and composure. Dry, warm and velvety with an intense impact which is full and harmonious, with just the right level of tannins. Enveloping and persistent, culminating in a very pleasant aftertaste.
