2013 Pandol Pinot Noir Sta Rita Hills
This winemaking story began in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Jenny Pandol, attended UCSC in the Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture Program. Her agricultural background gives her an astute sensitivity to the agricultural sites and cultivation practices of her grape sources.
Jenny relocated to Southern California in 2011 where she continues to produce Pinot Noir. For the past two years she has sourced from the Santa Rita Hills, an appellation perfectly suited for the challenging Pinot Noir grape. With the combination of rich calcium laden soils, cooling transverse maritime influence, and the east-west valley of rolling hills, Santa Rita Hills is among the elite few viticulture sites in the world for Pinot Noir. We now source our grapes exclusively from “Rita’s Crown”, a vineyard located just above “Sea Smoke” Estate and which shares the soil and climate characteristics.
Floral and red fruits on the nose lead to a palate of balck cherry, plum, currants and some salinity. Savory spice with a bit of mocha, cinnamon and vanilla round out this wine.
