2013 Metz Road Pinot Noir
Owned by Scheid Winery, a grower and producer since 1972, Al Scheid decided to create a program of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from single vineyards in the Monterey region. Only 1% of the grapes they grow make it into the Metz Road bottles.
Aromas of ripe cherries, red fruit and blood orange are intermingled with subtle notes of vanilla and butterscotch. The palate is supple and layered with vivid flavors of black cherry and raspberry.
Mesa del Rio Vineyard
Named for its placement atop a bench along a river bank, Mesa del Rio Vineyard is located on the western side of the Salinas Valley at the mouth of the Arroyo Seco River and is a premier winegrowing site. The micro-climate is noted for its moderate conditions and cold a ernoon winds, ideal for cool-climate varietals such as Pinot Noir. Evening coastal fogs in the spring and summer o en linger until mid-morning the following day. This natural cooling effect slows photosynthesis and causes a unique lengthening of the growing season.
