2013 Fort Ross Chardonnay
Lester and Linda Schwartz, two South Africans came to America to practice law and write music. After several years in San Francisco, they were yearning for a country life such as they left behind in another hemisphere.
They found some mountain land in the mountains near Fort Ross and began the slow process of learning and planting. By 2009 they were making wine, but needed the skill of a serious winemaker and brought in Jeff Pisoni who has made the wine since.
The Chardonnay has gotten recognition from all parts of the globe, justifiably. The generous texture and layers of intense fruit seamlessly weave together with the vibrant acidity and minerality characteristic of the Fort Ross Vineyard's coastal terroir.
Floral aromas of citrus blossom, green apple and lemon tart with hints of marzipan and brioche captivate the senses. Tiers of apricot, autumnal pear with a dash of hazelnut and spice evolve on the broad palate leading to the expansive finish.
