Mario and Mary Trinchero left Manhattan in 1948 to takeover an abandoned nineteenth century winery called Sutter Home in the Napa Valley. They
refurbished the place and began to produce wine, mostly Zinfandel from grapes they sourced in Amador County. In 1972, their son Bob produced a wine
he named White Zinfandel. Of course the fortunes of the Trinchero Winery were changed forever.
Shortly after the world's first white zin became famous, they began buying land in the Napa Valley setting the future in motion.
Mario’s Vineyard is a 13-acre vineyard surrounding our flagship winery in St. Helena. Located in a narrow, protected part of the Napa Valley, this vineyard is a benchland off the slope of Spring Mountain, with a unique rocky composition ideally situated to growing stellar Cabernet Sauvignon. This jewel of a site produces elegant wine with floral aromas, bright red fruit flavors and a supple, satisfying texture. Our Central Park West Vineyard, named in a nostalgic nod to the Trinchero family’s New York City origins, is located at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation. This 22-acre vineyard is a level site with deep, loamy soils and good sun exposure, with dappled light and excellent air circulation—the ideal conditions for producing classic Napa Valley Cabernet.
The 2012 growing season in Napa Valley began with an early bud-break, followed by mild spring weather, which gave us a heavy berry set. Our vines consistently saw warm, beautiful days throughout the growing season, coupled with Napa’s signature cool nights and foggy mornings, ensuring slow and even ripening. The varietal flavor and character developed in unison with sugar ripening. A warm fall with very little rain made for a smooth harvest. The resulting wines have beautiful balance and depth.
