2012 I Greco Cata Gaglioppo Rosso

$ 23.00

Sold Out

Tommaso Greco was an olive and wine farmer but the call for oil was greater than wine so he built the first olive mill in his area of Calabria. He continued to make wine as well, but not until his children grew up, did the wine take center stage.

Calabria was once considered the worst place to produce grapes, but the quality of Gaglioppo (the local grape) surfaced as part of a renaissance in the region. Many believe that the Greeks brought the grape to the area and used it to make the wine used to celebrate the Olympic Games 3,000 years ago.

It is intense and bright with scents of red berries and vanilla, cocoa and licorice. The wine is round and persistent with gentle and sweet tannins.
