2012 Foley Johnson Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
After successfully launching his empire of wine in the Santa Rita Hills, Bill Foley wanted to make it to main street for Cabernet Sauvignon and finally purchased a property in the Napa Valley. As always, when he buys a wine making business, he builds a solid team. Foley Johnson is rising fast as a well priced, high quality winery.
The 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is predominately Cabernet (75%) with small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc that give added flavors and help round out the wine. This Cabernet is filled with swarming aromas of candied red fruit and a hint of toasted oak. The palate has flavors of red currants, cassis, and dried cherries that give way to warm cedar spice that lingers through the finish. With soft and approachable tannins this wine is ready to drink now and will age beautifully over the years to come.
James Suckling - "A balanced and refined red with currant and blackberry character. Full-bodied yet firm and structured with tension and drinkability. Very well done. Drink or hold." 92 points Wine & Spirits - "This wine's lush fruit and herbal spice is cushioned by the richness of new oak. It's clean and balanced between sweet fruit and pleasant herbal bitterness, built for prime rib." 90 points
