2012 Domaine Lupe Cholet Comte de Lupe Bourgogne
Over a century ago, in Nuits Saint Georges, Alexandre de Mayol de Lupe and Felix de Cholet decided to join their wineries to create Domaine Lupe Cholet. Their motto was äóìTo bring together the best of soil, vine and human skill to produce wines of unique personality.äó?
This merger meant they would own vines in Chablis as well as various locations in the Cote d'Or. Until a few years ago, it remained a family business. With no decendents remaining, the property was sold to Albert Bichot who has upgraded the facilities and added to the landholdings.
David, the Grape Wrangler, walks past the winery that sits at the entrance to the village of Nuits Saint Georges on every visit to the patissiere. Having visited to barrel taste last year, he became even more enamored with the wines.
The Comte de Lupe Bourgogne Pinot Noir turns out to be one of the best quality to price ratio wines of the year. It is simply incredulous that this can be so good for the price.
There is a lovely fruitiness with strawberry, black current and cranberry showing on the nose with a compliment of earthiness and pepper. This wine is well balanced and has signs of minerality with red fruits and a delightful freshness. The tannins are soft and smooth and there is a liveliness about the wine.
