2011 Piccini Villa Al Cortile Brunello di Montalcino
Angiolo Piccini founded his winery over a century ago when he purchased about 10 acres of land. They started making Chianti in straw wrapped flasks (the kind my mother liked to put candles in, that is if she was not saving them for special occasions). The family and the acreage continued to grow and four generations later, they have moved from straw wrapped flasks to serious Brunello.
Almost impenetrable dark red color, sustained and round with complex notes of licorice and ripe black cherry, both powerful and classy. Full, ripe, spicy black-skinned fruit on the palate, smooth tannins expose great elegance. Long aftertaste of chestnut.
"A firm, silky red with blueberry, dried flower and spice. Full to medium body, hints of toasted coconut and plenty of fruit." James Suckling - 90 points
