Chambolle-Musigny is a small village in the Cote de Nuits neighboring of Vougeot. The village produces almost exclusively Pinot Noir, the remainder being a very small amount of Chardonnay. The word äóÖChambolle' roughly translates to 'boiling field' and is a reference to the gushes of water which flow down the hillside slopes after heavy rainfall when the nearby stream has overrun its banks.

The wines of Chambolle-Musigny are known for being powerful yet refined; rich & elegant. This village Pinot Noir is bright and vibrant with nuances of minerality. On the palate, the broad flavors and mid-palate clarity display notes of sour cherry and peony. The firm tannins provide added complexity to this Chambolle.

The tasting panel at TAWC were surprised at perfectly the 2011 Maison L'Oree Chambolle Musigny VV articulated the flavors of Chambolle-Musigny. We were also surprised that such an excellent Burgundy was within reach of most wine-drinkers.

Maison L'Oree means "home at the edge of the forest" and is a negotiant project of Rajat Parr and Charles Banks. Parr is a master sommelier and partner at Sandhi Wines.
