2016 Domaine Jomain Puligny Montrachet
"The Montrachet should be drunk on his knees and head uncovered" Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870)
Already at that time the wines of Puligny-Montrachet were recognized for their quality.
Domaine Jomain’s Puligny-Montrachet comes from 1.98 ha vineyard planted in 1970. All their vineyards are sustainable farmed (lutte raisonnée). Soils consist of limestone interbedded with marl, loosely defined as calcium carbonate containing variable amounts of clay. Manual harvest using small bins with strict selection in the vineyard. Grapes are pressed with a pneumatic press and moved to a combination of new, second, and third year barrels. Never more than 25% new oak. Extensive bâtonnage of lees during period of malo-lactic to enhance texture and reduce use of SO2. Racked, fined and returned to barrel in Spring after harvest and bottled with minimal or no filtration in September.
