2020 Tresomm Mezcla Tinta
TRESOMM is a winery based in the Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California, Mexico spearheaded by former Sommelier Taylor Grant.
In 2017, Taylor and a group of friends headed down to the Valle to visit wineries, and were overwhelmed by how connected they felt to the region. On the last visit of the day, they stopped by Bodegas Magoni and tasted the wines with winemaker Camillo Magoni’s son in law, Julio. After many laughs (and many glasses), they arranged to come back to meet Camillo.
Originally from Valtellina, Italy, Camillo is a pioneer of the Baja wine industry. He moved to the Valle in 1965 and over the years has planted his vineyards with indigenous European varietals.
Taylor and fellow Sommeliers Chris and Conner partnered with the Magoni family to produce thought-provoking bottles from organically farmed varieties including Grignoliño, Aligoté, and Touriga Nacional. The ‘Manaz’ vineyard sits right beside the winery on the valley floor. It is a mix of sand and clay.
Located approximately an hour and a half south of San Diego, California and 12 miles inland from Ensenada. The climate is Mediterranean - warm and dry with cool ocean breezes funneling upward through the Valle.
2020 was a warm year with sufficient amount of needed rain. A heatwave in September caused an earlier pick with resulting wines showing nice ripeness of fruit while still maintaining acidities.
Only 200 cases produced.
