2013 Quady North GSM
After moving to Oregon in 2003, Herb and Meloney decided that farming the hills around Jacksonville would make for good wine. They bought 100 acres in 2005, rolled up their sleeves and got started. Favoring the delicious Rhone varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne) they found themselves feeling "Loire-ish" at times, so they planted Cabernet Franc as well.
The proportions here are 45% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre, delivering an aromatic smorgasbord of spicy, herbal red fruits, pine needles, green peppercorns and some finishing funk. For the price this delivers a full blast of sensory overload, with the lushness of a CdP. A New World version of the French classic “Rhone Blend.” Grenache acts to soften the more tannic Syrah, while Mourvèdre adds backbone and a unique “gamey-ness.” This is a versatile wine capable of accompaniment to many different dishes. Spicy aromas with notes of clove, black pepper and currant.
