Parigot & Richard Bourgogne Mousseux Brut
Winemakers in Burgundy who wanted to make sparkling wine a la méthode champenoise, banded together and obtained the ability to put Bourgogne Mousseux on their bottles in 1943. It wasn’t until the 1960s and ’70s that Crémant became formalized and used on labels, but that applied only to white or rosé sparkling wines. That left sparkling red the label of Bourgogne Mousseux. Sparkling reds tend to be sweet or overly ripe. But this cuvée is dry and more red-wine like. Medium-bodied, it has notes of cherry, cranberry, and some dried herbs.
This is a red sparkling wine. And it is delicious.
