Fontodi is one of Tuscany's great wine estates. It is located in a tiny town called Panzano in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. The vines are farmed organically and have been certified since 2008. As a general rule, the wines made here are superb, but often require aging to get there. This vintage has arrived.

Our allocation is small and tasting notes on this older vintage are few and far between. We dug up a review from 2004 that ran in the German food & style magazine falstaff. It was cheerfully translated by Google:

Tuscan fireworks: The new vintages in Chianti Classico Riserva and Super Tuscans (emphasis in 2000 & 2001)
(Tasted by Othmar Kiem, published in January 2004)
Sparkling ruby; slightly overcast at the beginning, after ripe cherry, some olives, in background fine coconut notes; juicy approach, very clear fruit, in the rear area is powerful, rugged tannins, dense structure, the final fine fruit sweetness.

Here are some wine stats:
Appellation: Colli Toscana Centrale IGT
Grapes: Sangiovese 100%
Fermentation: In temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts for at least 3 weeks. Malolactic in barrels
Aging: In new Troncais and Allier barrels for at least 18 months
