2019 Louis Jadot Cote de Nuits Villages e Vaucrain
The Côte de Nuits is the northern of the two districts of the Côte d’Or, a narrow, eleven-mile ribbon of vineyards stretching from Marsannay, at the outskirts to Dijon, to Corgoloin, which adjoins Ladoix-Serrigny, the first commune of the Côte de Beaune.
As a general rule, the wines of the Côte de Nuits, due to the high content of chalky clay in the soils, are somewhat fuller, earthier, more complex and more tannic wines than those of the Côte de Beaune, but exceptions to this are numerous in the case of grand and premier cru wines.
Le Vaucrain is a ‘lieu dit,’ or single vineyard, of 13 acres at the top of the slope in the commune of Comblanchien bordering on Prémeaux, to the north and lying partly adjacent to the Nuits-St.-Georges premier cru of Clos de la Maréchale. Domaine Louis Jadot is proprietor of two parcels in Vaucrain, one planted to white vines and one to red. The red parcel, of 8.7 acres, produces a firm, full-fruited and medium-bodied, with ripe, black and red berry flavors and a classically earthy and aromatic Pinot Noir bouquet.
