2016 Labarge Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Located in the Sta Rita Hills AVA, Labarge has 17 acres planted to Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, Albarino and Viognier. All certified organic. Their Pinot Noir is fermented in oak, concrete, and stainless steel tanks. Aged for 15 months in 23% new barrels (228L and 400L)

I preferred the 2016 Pinot Noir from LaBarge Winery to the 2015 rendition, admiring its more vibrant bouquet of cherries, cinnamon, herbs and balsamic reduction, framed by a touch of nutty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with more mid-palate amplitude and completeness than the 2015, and a fine grained chassis of tannins that makes itself felt with light grip on the dry finish. I suspect that as the vines mature, this cuvee will go from strength to strength, as Pierre LaBarge seems to have all the right ideas.
