2012 Luigi Scavino Azelia Barolo
Luigi Scavino, neighbor to his cousin Enrico, started his winery with no lack of funds. As he learned more about winemaking, he has refined his technique including reducing use of new oak. Luigi has become a shining star in Piemonte for his thoughtful winemaking. His grapes are from the Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga regions where the vine produces full bodied, intense and complex wines.
The Azelia shows excellent fruit and power for a regular Barolo. Berries, spices and red cherry lift from the glass. The structure is robust and the fruit bright. This is made from 45 year old crus vines.
