2018 Oremus Mandolas Dry Furmint
This wine's name comes from the old way of referring to the vineyard from where it comes. Mandolás is one of the Oremus vineyards and it is only planted with Furmint, the noblest grape variety of the region.
The Tokaj Oremus Mandolás, made from the grape variety Furmint, has evolved since its first vintage in 2001. A series of improvements have been taking place across all areas of production. In the vineyard a number of techniques have been implemented including specific plot selection in order to obtain an optimal healthy golden ripe cluster selection. At winery level, changes in new oak barrel toasting used in the fermentation process along with frequent and controlled batonages, restores the minerality of the volcanic soil, characteristic of the region.
Furmint is a white grape variety grown primarily in Hungary and Slovakia and is the dominant grape variety in the production of Hungary's most famous vinous export.
Gloriously refined. Bright, fresh attack with notes of lime and stone minerality. Limpid, pure, saline. Altogether an original. Furmint at its most precise, with clear Burgundian character.
Wine Spectator 90
A ripe and juicy note of Jonagold apple is layered with hints of beeswax, chive blossom and almond skin in this well-cut, medium-bodied white, which is lightly chalky in texture, with a saline-laced finish.
