Both the 2017s showed brilliantly. The 2017 Rasteau offers a raspberry and blackberry core of fruit as well as complex notes of sappy garrigue, mint, and even a hint of basil. Based on 80% Grenache, 17% Syrah, and 3% Mourvèdre, brought up in foudre, drink this medium to full-bodied, seamless Rasteau any time over the coming 5-7 years.

DOMAINE DE BEAURENARD stretched in 1980 over 25 ha of vineyard in Rasteau, in Rhone Valley (at 25 km from our vineyard of Châteauneuf du Pape).

This wonderful “terroir” is classified as Cru since 2010. The clayey-calcareous and stony slopes and terraces are superbly displayed and benefit from ideal hours of sunshine. It allows a very nice ripeness of grapes. 80 % Grenache and 20% Syrah were chosen. The vigor of the vine is controlled to privilege the terroir expression. The yields are very low, 30 hl/Ha.

Harvest is 100% manual and, as we do in Châteauneuf du Pape, sorted out, with selection of grapes. Only the nice bunches, very ripe, healthy, noble, are chosen.

The grapes are destemmed and ferment during 18 to 28 days, with wild yeast, in order to fully extract the concentration achieved in the vineyard and to maximize refinement of the extracted phenolic constituents. Rasteau soils can produce wines with strong tannins. Then the wine are clarified and aged during 12 month in vats and oak foudres before the bottling accomplished with care at the estate.

TASTING NOTES
Dense and deep color. Nice freshness in the nose with garrigue and wild blackberries notes. Fruity and spicy mouth with wild raspberry notes, rosemary and thyme. Its structure, its balance and its minerality presume a bright future.
