2015 Domaine Lefort Mercurey 1er Cru Castille
David Lefort, 32 years old, started his domaine in 2010 by first converting his 2.08 Ha property in Mercurey 1er Cru to organic agriculture. His rocky limestone soil is from superior Jurassic time with 20 year old vines. Starting with an organic approach in the vineyard, David continues in the cellar with minimal intervention using only indigenous yeast and gravity. Simply put, some of the best wines from this appellation. All wines are organic.
A surprisingly good Google Translation of the tasting notes:
A ruby color with purplish purple notes, clear and brilliant; good viscosity and multiple jamb. The nose mixes notes of black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant jelly, very ripe and juicy blueberry), with a mineral dimension; followed by touches of gooseberry and notes of fruit liqueur. Aeration adds a balsamic dimension (eucalyptus), which is then relayed by rearing notes (roasting, mocha and sweet spices).
Very pleasant mouth, this wine displays concentration and density. The matter, however, is delicate with a juicy flesh which expresses itself with purity; it integrates without any difficulty the tannic structure. The attack is fleshy and velvety; the evolution much more extended with tannins tight. The whole is of quality with a freshness that will lead it through time. Final on the zan with persistent graphite and spicy notes.
