2015 Chateau Picque Caillou Pessac Leognan
Château Picque Caillou was built in 1780 in what was then the countryside outside of Bordeaux, but has now become a part of the growing city of Bordeaux. The illustrious Chateau Haut Brion is just a few hundred meters away (15 minute walk). In fact, it is one of the few estates, along with its neighbors Haut Brion and Pape Clement, that have resisted the development urge and preserved their extraordinary terroir to make unforgettable wines. The Pessac-Leognan appellation, which was created in 1987, is reserved for the most exclusive estates in the well known Graves region.
93 Points James Suckling
"Attractive dark blackcurrants, violets, cedar and loganberries with hints of spiced raisins. There’s ample depth to the fine tannins. Bright, effusive dark fruit flavors with a light finish."
94 Points Wine Enthusiast
"Just on the edge of the urban sprawl of Bordeaux, this estate has managed to retain its vineyard despite the housing pressure. This year it is beautifully structured, dense and very stylish. Black-currant fruit, some firm tannins and balance make this wine so attractive."
Vibrant red robe. Intense nose of spices, red fruits and vanilla. Medium-bodied in the mouth with red cherries, cassis, and lightly grilled oak flavors. Silky tannins and nice long finish.
