2014 Chateau des Jacques Morgon
Chateau des Jacques is a single estate owned by Louis Jadot since 2001. This south- to southeast-facing vineyard is situated on the slopes over the village of Villié Morgon. Atop the hierarchy of Beaujolais Crus (of which there are ten specific Crus) are Moulin-à-Vent and Morgon, with notable aging potential. Morgon is robust and structured and can mature for a minimum 5-20 years. Chateau des Jacques covers 87.5 acres of the Morgon appellation. This wine is vinified in vats for 10 to 20 days and then matured in oak barrels before bottling.
Very deep in color, this wine -is a blend of three single vineyards (Bellevue, Côte du Py & Roche noire), and shows a brilliant and large aromatic palette (spices, ripe black fruits). On the palate, the tannins are firm - which indicates the potential of ageing – and they are well balanced by a great tension.
92 Points, Vinous
Deep ruby. Very sexy, highly expressive red and blue fruit and incense aromas and a floral element that emerges as the wine opens up. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering palate-staining boysenberry and black raspberry flavors and a touch of vanilla. Finishes very long and sweet, with smooth, even tannins sneaking in late. - Josh Reynolds
