2012 Benoit Roseau Syrah de Rosette
Benoit Roseau started making his own wine in 2010 after leasing vineyards in the Northern Rhone. This was of course after being winemaker at Domaine de la Bonserine outside of the village of Ampuis producing Cote Rotie and Condrieu.
Having visited Ampuis, David discovered a few things. The foie gras was fantastic, but so was the rest of the duck. The very steep hillsides made one wonder how they got the fruit down without falling. And finally, every single local wine tasted was interesting and delicious and paired beautifully with the various preparations of duck.
If your French is decent, you can visit the charming, rustic website. Some great pictures there.
Spicy, pepper, and juicy on the nose. The wine is bright, fruity , fresh, nice soft tannin, red raspberries, violets, black pepper and somewhat austere.
