2015 The Stash Chardonnay
Having good intentions doesn't always pay off.
This is a wonderful Chardonnay. Pleasant to drink with enough complexity and style to make it enjoyable. An easy crowd pleaser. But, to be honest, we hate the name. And don't think much of the hairy label (printed hair, but still).
The idea is wonderful...a wine crafted to remind men to take care of themselves, specifically their health. But slapping a neon green mustache on a bottle of chardonnay might not capture the intended audience.
At least the wine is good.
The fruit for this Chardonnay was hand-picked and hand-sorted at night to capture the most vivid fruit flavors. Gentle whole cluster pressing removes the juice from the skins and seeds and settles for 48 hours before being racked into French Oak barrels – some used, and some brand new to create balance.
Once in barrel, primary and maloactic fermentation occurs to blend the oak and fruit flavors of the wine. The wine rested 10 months in barrel, with lees stirred monthly.
Sourced primarily from the famed Durell Vineyard. Located in the heart of the up and coming “Petaluma Gap” region of Sonoma Coast, this unique area enjoys cooling effects from the nearby San Pablo Bay, afternoon winds generated from the Pacific Ocean, and the warmth of the Sonoma Valley to the east.
The vineyard is known for is sloping hills, rocky clay loam soils and low vigor wines that keep yield quite low. A truly remarkable place to grow Chardonnay.
