2016 Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon
From the Winery:
Much of our winter rain came late, with almost 12 inches in March alone. With a very warm spring, the vines were running about three weeks early heading into the summer months. July and August were cooler than average, with foggy mornings, mild sunny afternoons and no severe heat spells. Vineyard temperatures rose again in September and harvest dates were early by about two weeks. The heat in the spring and again in the fall provided welcome bookends to the mild summer. The grapes benefited from increased hang time and showed fantastic character development.
Deep purple ruby in color, the wine has fruit driven aromas of plum, cherry and a hint of bay leaf. The palate is rich and concentrated with flavors of red fruits, baking spice and vanilla. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to be enjoyed with your next meal or to rest in your cellar for future enjoyment.
From the Critics:
James Suckling 92
With its fresh-herb notes and lively acidity, this Napa cabernet sauvignon has a light and fresh style that makes it very food-friendly. The red-fruit and delicate, herbal character give this plenty of appeal. With more concentration, it would rate even higher. Drink or hold.
'Highly recommended,' California Grapevine: "[$60 list] Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, rich, ripe, dark cherry, blackberry, and boysenberry fruit aroma with hints of black olive, clove, and cinnamon; full body; somewhat elegant, nicely balanced, red and dark fruit flavors with spicy and herbal notes; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Approachable now, though deserves several more years of bottle aging. Released February 2019.
