2012 Les Hauts de Smith Pessac Leognan
The Hauts de Smith Rouge is the second red wine of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. This is a very successful variation of the famous Cru Classé de Graves: the same quality assurance in the bottle, for an accessible wine earlier, on the freshness of its fruit.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte, listed for its red wines, is a magnificent 14th century estate. It belongs since 1990 to a couple of entrepreneurs reconverted to wine by passion: Daniel Cathiard - former ski champion of the team of France - and his wife Florence, founders of the GO SPORT brand. They entrusted the technical direction of the estate to Fabien Teitgen, with the advice of Stéphane Derenoncourt.
The cru enjoys a beautiful terroir of gravel on limestone subsoil, located in Martillac. Of the 67 hectares of vines, 56 are dedicated to red wines made from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with a touch of Petit Verdot. The remaining 11 hectares produce a white wine of Sauvignon Blanc and Gris (95%) and Semillon.
Smith Haut Lafitte's red wines are distinguished by their rich and characteristic toasty notes. They can be kept for many decades.
In the same way, the white wines have a structure and a power which allow a marked breeding, to enrich their aromatic palette of fine vanilla and spicy notes.
