2019 Resonance McMinnville Hyland Vd Chardonnay
This Chardonnay, is the first from Resonance from the region and comes from the historic Hyland Vineyard in the McMinnvillle AVA. Like Résonance Vineyard, Hyland is nestled on a south-facing slope in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range and contains some of the oldest soils in the Willamette Valley. We pick the grapes by hand from vines planted in 1979. This single- vineyard wine shows the liveliness and balance that is unique to Oregon Chardonnays, as well as the light touch of our multigenerational Burgundian heritage.
The beginning of 2019 was wet but warm. May and June were warmer than average, giving great weather conditions for the bloom in early June. Then the summer showed moderately cool conditions, with higher humidity. After a warm and dry August, and veraison on the middle of the month, a rapid cool down with significant precipitations in September slowed down the maturation. We picked our Chardonnay between September 26th and 29th. We pressed the whole grapes slowly and after a long cold settling, the alcoholic fermentation took place in barrels.
A wine with a bright white gold color. The nose reveals subtle aromas of lemon zest, pear, fresh almond, white flower and vanilla. The wine has a nice tension and an aromatic purity, exhausted by a precise minerality.
